The purpose of chapter one of Lives at Risk: Single-Payer National Health Insurance Around the World is to dispel the myth that people have a "right" to healthcare in nation-states with single-payer healthcare systems. The authors accomplish their goal by citing publicly-available data from several such nation-states that illustrate the reality that, due to statist healthcare rationing, many patients die before standard-of-care treatment is delivered OR only receive treatment after waiting for months or years. Unfortunately, the chapter does not address in a philosophical manner the erroneous concept of a "right" to healthcare.
